The film has three screenings on the calendar this fall, in three very different settings — one of them free from wherever you happen to be sitting. The Stones are Speaking is the story of the Gault site in Central Texas, where the record of human presence runs back some 20,000 years, and of Mike Collins, who spent decades getting the land out of the hands of looters and into the hands of researchers.

SEPT. 22 – AARP has chosen The Stones Are Speaking for its Movies for Grownups series. It streams online, free, at 8 p.m. Eastern / 7 p.m. Central. Membership isn't required, but registration is, so it's worth doing that ahead of time. Olive Talley will be available online on the AARP site throughout the event for a chat.

OCT. 14 – The School for Advanced Research and the Gault School of Archaeological Research are hosting a screening at the Military Museum in Santa Fe, 6:00 to 8:30. Tom Dillehay, Bruce Bradley, Dick Boisvert and Jon Lohse will join Olive Talley for Q&A afterward. Among them they've spent careers on the question of when people first arrived in the Americas, often against the prevailing view. Bruce is also the source of the film's title: he said the phrase in conversation with Mike along the creek one afternoon, and it stuck.

NOV. 1 – In Cuero, TX, the film screens as part of the Stormont Lecture Series, hosted by Victoria College and the DeWitt County Historical Commission. It's free and open to the public. Kenneth Garrett, Tiffany Osburn – deputy state archeologist and GSAR board member – and Olive Talley will take questions after.

The organizers in Cuero have gone further than anyone asked. They're printing bookmarks to hand out to schoolkids and they redesigned the poster so they could put it up around town. That kind of thing is a good part of what has come out of making this film: the site's story keeps getting picked up and carried by people who had no particular reason to.
